Relax! You have time to reflect!
I LOVE a good reflection. And I’m usually really traditional about it, aiming for New Years Eve / January 1st to be a big ol’ day of reflection and planning. It’s an excellent way to start the New Year.
I love it so much that I created what I call “Two Years Eve” and spend time reflecting at the midpoint of the year, on June 30th. (I also take July off every year, so it’s a really nice way to gather my thoughts and let my brain settle in for a month off!).
This year, December 31st was suddenly here - seemingly out of nowhere. And then just like that, it was January 3rd…and now, January 9th…
and STILL NO REFLECTION.
I haven’t taken the time to sit with my notebook and just write. I haven’t cozied up at a cafe for a few hours or over a steak dinner at a table for one to get everything in my head out on paper. And as the New Year kicked off, I found myself seeing everyone else’s reflections online - in many forms. I saw the words of the year, I saw the intentions, I saw the people burning pieces of paper, and approximately 26,190 people on instagram talking about how they have their mason jar ready so that each day they can write something they are happy about or grateful for so that they can read them on NYE next year.
(The jar isn’t for me, can you tell?)
I thought I missed my chance. I didn’t reflect within 24 hours of the NYE ball drop - so when it came to reflecting, I was the one who dropped the ball.
I’ll let you in on a secret: You can reflect any damn day you want. It doesn’t have to be NYE or New Years Day. It doesn’t even have to be a Monday. Apparently you can do it as few or as many times as you want. You can do it all at once or in little chunks.
HELLO FREEDOM!
I can’t be the only one who felt this pressure, or like I had missed it. But still had this inkling I wanted to do it… so I created my own Reflection Guide that you can do as much as you want, or as little as you want. In a picturesque cafe, or in your dirty sweatpants with The Real Housewives on in the background. You can also start it and not finish it, or skip the things that don’t connect with you.
Download your very own reflection guide here
(Note: I’ll never know what day you download it or if/how you complete it!)
The pressure IS OFF.
This guide is here. Use it as you wish. I only insist on one thing: that you find something to celebrate, and spend time celebrating.
